Bathroom Remodel Designs
Your bathroom is one of the most important rooms in the house, and the designs you choose should reflect this fact. Think about what you need added. Maybe you want a second sink because your spouse is always hogging the one you have now, or maybe you want to add a hot tub or Jacuzzi to your bathroom. Popular designs include a linen closet for towels and linens, a sauna or steam room, adding a hot tub, and opening up the space more for extra room...continue reading

Remodel Your Bathroom with Ease
The next step is to design your new remodeled bathroom, and this can be done by a professional, a friend, or yourself, depending on your needs and budget. It is a good idea to walk through your bathroom, and be realistic about the potential. If your bathroom is only a ten foot square area, it is doubtful that you can add a Jacuzzi and sauna without adding more space. Being realistic you will prevent unnecessary aggravation later on. Determine what your needs are, what you want in an ideal bathroom, and what you have to work with...continue reading

Bathroom Renovations
A good contractor makes a big difference when you are renovating your bathroom, or any other part of your home. Horror stories abound about contractors who have turned off power and/or water and then disappeared for days, with no work being done, are not uncommon. Others tell tales of contractors who showed up to accept a deposit or down payment and then did not come back for weeks. Make sure the contractor you choose is reliable and dependable, and that their work is of high quality standards. Ask for references and for pictures of past work, to determine if the contractor you are considering is professional and can give the results promised...continue reading

Bathroom Remodeling in New York
Plumbing must be considered when remodeling your New York bathroom, otherwise your new toilet may not flush as efficiently, and water can not drain out of your shower, tub, hot tub, and sink as fast as you want. Consider the existing pipes. Is the diameter wide enough to carry the amount of water you want and need in addition to the water requirements already put on the entire plumbing system? It may become necessary to have new pipes put in that are a larger diameter, or run another set of pipes that only service the remodeled bathroom. Are you adding any fixtures or items like an extra shower, a hot tub, or anything else that would increase the amount of water needed to the remodeled bathroom?...continue reading

Bathroom Remodeling Costs
First, determine if you need new fixtures or appliances. If the sink is old and cracked, or the toilet just does not flush half the time, then it may be time to replace these with newer models. These can range widely in price, depending on the new fixtures that you choose. If you want the top of the line marble sink and counter with gold faucets, then this one fixture may cost more than a bathroom remodeling project that is simply putting in new tile. The sink, toilet, tub, and shower should be examined, to see if you could include these fixtures or simply replace them. Maybe you are tired of barely having enough room in your shower stall...continue reading

Bathroom Renovation Cost
One expense group in remodeling is the appliances and fixtures needed or desired. We have all seen exquisite bathrooms in movies, on television, and in magazines, and thought that we would love to have that bathroom in our home. Sinks can be cheap or expensive, depending on the manufacturer and the quality. Fixtures can also range from inexpensive to very expensive. If you want faucets that are made of gold, it is going to cost you plenty, especially with the price of gold right now. If you will settle for faucets and fixtures that look fabulous and are high quality but do not contain precious metals you can see significant savings...continue reading

Bathroom Interior Decorating Ideas
The look of the tile work should go with the color of the un-tiled walls. While some bathrooms have tiled walls, most will have at least one plaster wall. Wooden walls in bathrooms are generally old-fashioned, though some modern homes do incorporate wood into the bathroom, especially in luxury bathrooms that include a Jacuzzi or sauna. However, for smaller everyday bathrooms, wood panels should be confined to cupboard doors and drawers. The wall color should match the tiles. Perhaps the most popular bathroom color is...

Bathtubs - So Many Choices
Bathtubs and showers have different styles. The alcove model is the most common, and is meant to go with a shower in the wall above it. These types of tubs/showers are usually shallow and will have limited styles to choose from. The Home Building Club points out, "When purchasing an alcove tub, be sure to specify if you want the drain to be on the left or right wall, ask about matching shower doors and choose your tub...continue reading

Plumbing - Unclogging a Sink or Bathtub
On top of that, add approximately one half cup of regular table salt. Get it all in the drain as best as you can, but if it is overflowing don't worry about it- salt and borax are perfectly safe so no worries. Next, add boiling (and I stress boiling) water. I find it best, safest and most precise, to use a tea kettle. Pour the boiling water over the drain and salt/borax mixture. Use at least four cups of boiling water...continue reading

Quick Fixes to Toilet Problems
Quick Fix to this problem is to find the water valve to the toilet tank and close it until it is about a one quarter to a one-half turn from completely being shut off. This will slow the rate of the toilet flush. The toilet tank will fill more slowly, but it's the difference between shower shock and a mild temperature fluctuation...continue reading

So You Want to Remodel Your Bathroom
Now is the time that your fantasy has a meeting with reality (don't get sad, this can be a good thing). On your list of items, write down next to it the prices. Upgrading Your Bathroom Fixtures
If you have a specific design style in mind, you may want to take pictures of the faucets you like with you and talk to a design specialist at the store.  It is a good idea to speak to a plumbing assistant to determine which fixtures in your bathroom can be upgraded and if the style you want to use is feasible.  Take your time choosing the fixtures you are going to use in your bathroom.  In fact, you may want to make several trips to the store in order to narrow down your choices to a fixture you want to use.  It is easy to upgrade your bathroom fixtures but... continue reading

Dismantling a Bathroom
most of the bathroom remodels that you will encounter don't require a complete remodel and therefore you won't need to gut the entire bathroom. Bathrooms and Moisture
Leaks can originate in the supply piping itself. They can also stem from plumbing faucets, drainage piping, and the connection of drainage piping to fixtures, as well as the overflow from bathtubs and sinks. Often the piping is visible in the ceiling, and when it is not, obvious repairs to tile and plaster work may indicate repairs have been done. As well, all of the faucets in the bathroom should be turned on and... continue reading

Setting Bathroom Tiles
grout float can also be referred to as a rubber faced trowel. This tool, like the name implies, applies the grout in a process that takes at least two passes. When doing this, it's important that passes are made diagonally across the joints to avoid pulling the grout out of the joints. You need some sponges too. Round cornered sponges with tight pores are less likely to pull the grout out of the joints. After the grout starts to haze over, you should wipe that area with a damp sponge frequently wetting the sponge... continue reading

of the first of these are the installation of grab bars. They should be mounted to either the floor or the wall, and they should be close enough to help with movement in and around the toilets, bathtubs and shower stalls. Plastic Surgery on Your Bathroom -- Bathroom Remodel
Costs in New York

Plastic surgery can be cheaper. That's a fact. A simple face-lift can be peanuts compared to the nip and tuck to a bathroom in your home. Yes, we're talking about remodeling the room that houses the porcelain throne -- New York style.

While national costs vary, New York tends to skew above national averages when remodeling brooklyn bathrooms. Of course, all of these are estimates and are defined by the consumer, but some guides can help you along the way, such as: National Repair & Remodeling Estimator and Repair & Remodeling Costs Data. While estimating guides are great for insiders of the trade, they are also good for D.I.Y.ers or those looking to budget for an upcoming bathroom facelift.

One of the factors that will determine your cost is the scale of the make-over. If it's a simple paint and polish job or a mildew-banishing gig, chances are you can get away with what amounts to four Friday nights at your local Applebee's. But if your dreams require turning a 45-year-old into a 30-ish hot-to-trot, be ready to pony up some of Little Sally's college fund. All of this may sound a little bleak, but the truth is, creativity can stretch your dollar a long way. A splash of paint, a new rug, or even a simple antique purchased at the local flea market, can change your bathroom's identity in an instant. It's all about what you want -- and then how you can make that happen.

A big issue in costs depends on the tools and materials. The most expensive are not always the best choice as the years tick by. Then again, you don't want to pay low today for something that will need replacing by 2011.

Color is a major factor in a Brooklyn bathroom make-over. Your tastes change. The world's taste changes. Wallpaper fades or is discontinued by the manufacturer. Then there is the daunting task of making sure you find something that matches the bathtub, shower and toilet. If you are a D.Y.I.er, it could be as low as $1,000 and as high as $5,000. With a contractor, you can usually expect to triple that in New York (and in some cities, multiple it times 5!).

The problem with just throwing some paint on the walls, or redoing wallpaper, is it can oftentimes highlight the age of a bathroom -- kind of like when your grandmother gets a facelift at the age of 75. Replacing the sink, tub, vanity, counter -- or all of them -- may be the answer. The cost of a sink or vanity varies widely. It can go from $400 on the low end, to >$2,500 on the higher end. Unfortunately, coordinating your new color scheme with your new vanity or sink might drive the price to a level for which you never signed up.

Now there is also the issue of the tiles on the floor and the walls. This makes perhaps the biggest difference in the bathroom that shows its age. Tiles can go for $2 to $100 per square foot. If you get a great tile guy to do the work, it can last you a lifetime and will be easy to maintain. Labor varies -- usually depending on the amount of space or the price of the tile -- but you can expect upwards of >$2,500 plus for 100 square feet of tile installed, depending upon the type of tile installed. This process can take less than two day's work to do, depending on the contractor used.

Although not always replaced during a remodeling, fixtures can drastically change the look of a bathroom. New sinks, toilets, bathtubs, or even just the faucets, can shake up the dynamics of your bathroom. Replacing a bathtub or shower is a major job and unless you are one of the ultimate DIYers, you will need a contractor to set up shop in your home for a few days or more. Costs for these items can range from $1,800 to $6,500 (more for labor, of course). If you go with the best and replace everything, you might be looking at >$20,000 (kiss the college fund goodbye!).

All in all, you can install a new bathroom into your Brooklyn home, but the costs will be up to you. If you are in the New York area, you'll pay a little more than Main Street, Kansas. If you are a D.I.Y.er, you may cut some financial corners, but can expect to spend some un-quality time on your hands and knees in your new future bathroom. Just remember, when trying to figure out your remodeling budget, make phone calls, sends e-mails, and make sure that you are comfortable with the bathroom remodeling company that you intend to hire -- especially in New York!

Bathroom Remodels Add Value to Your Home

Remodeling your bathroom can make a big difference in the value of your home, and the selling price that you will get if you ever decide to sell. A bathroom remodeling project is going to cost money when it is done, but this is money that can be recovered if you ever sell the home. Anytime you make improvements to your bathroom, this makes your home more valuable, and makes the market price for it go up. Many people remodel their bathrooms with no concept of the improvement in value of the home. A small bathroom may cost as much as ten thousand dollars to remodel, and if the bathroom is large or you want an upscale remodeling project done the cost can go up to thirty thousand dollars or more. The key is to plan your remodeling project so that you end up with a bathroom you love while maximizing the increase in value for your home. If the value of your home is thirty thousand dollars, it would not make sense to remodel the bathroom lavishly, with a cost of thirty thousand dollars for the project, because your home value may not increase by that amount. It is doubtful if the market value of your home would increase to sixty thousand dollars just because the bathroom was remodeled, no matter how extensive the remodeling job is.

Before deciding on how much to spend for a bathroom remodel, determine what you want in the bathroom, and how much you are willing to spend. Next determine how this money can be spent to maximize the value increase in your home. Some remodeling jobs have a higher home value increase than others do. A simple coat of fresh paint can cost very little, but increase your home value by a significant amount. A bathroom remodel can include many things. You can add a hot tub, or replace the old bathtub with a Jacuzzi model that has water jets, which can be very relaxing. Fixtures on the sink, tub, and shower can be updated for a fresh new look that is fabulous. Install a double sink in the place of the single sink for the master bathroom, so there are no crowding issues. A new vanity will add value to the home, and so will adding more shower heads or replacing an old single shower model with a multi head model that has plenty of room.

One popular component of bathroom remodels, especially in northern areas, can be adding a heated flooring system, so there is never a cold moment while you are bathing or getting ready. A bidet or new toilet can be installed, cabinets and storage options can be included, and other items can be replaced or repaired. Use caution though, and carefully consider the value of your home both before and after the bathroom remodeling project. Sometimes the value of your home will not increase enough to cover the cost of the remodeling, but this will depend on the individual home, the neighborhood, and what similar homes have sold for. If you have a home in a neighborhood full of hundred thousand dollar homes, and the value of your home is in this price range, a top end bathroom remodel would probably not recover the total cost of the project by an increase in your home value. This does not mean you should not do the project, especially if you plan on living in the home for a long time, because part of the reason for a bathroom remodeling project is to get a bathroom that you want and will enjoy.

You should weigh the cost of any bathroom remodel against the value increase your home will see once the remodel project is complete. Determine how much you want each item or component against the cost for that item or component and how much it will increase your home value. A bathroom remodel can be considered an investment, and like any investment you should weigh the investment costs against the possible investment returns before you make any decisions. If you decide that you really want a twenty thousand dollar remodel of your bathroom, but the home value would only increase by ten thousand, you must make some hard decisions. Are you willing to pay the extra amount over the increase in value, so that you can have the bathroom of your dreams? If so then go ahead. After all, your convenience and the enjoyment of a remodeled bathroom for you and your family are worth something as well.

Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

Bathroom remodeling ideas abound, and we all could use some bathroom improvements of some type. Whether you are looking to make your bathroom larger, more efficiently designed, or you want a complete bathroom makeover starting from scratch, it can be done. Remodeling your bathroom can be a big priority. We have all seen bathrooms that were standing room only, with fixtures and appliances so close together that you could touch them all standing in the same spot. You do not have to live with a bad bathroom, there are many ideas that can result in the bathroom becoming the most popular room in your home.

One bathroom remodeling idea that everyone would enjoy is to add a shower area that uses four or five shower heads, all pointing in different directions and providing plenty of water pressure and hot water. These showers may seem luxurious, but aren't you and your family worth the extra expense? A hot tub or Jacuzzi tub can be installed as well, making your bathroom a place to relax and let the stress flow away. Saunas are also popular, but these are rarely installed in the bathroom, and instead they usually are set in their own room off to the side or somewhere else.

A bathroom remodeling project can include closets that meet the needs of your family. Linen closets are frequently added, so that towels and other linens can be stored. Sometimes a master bathroom may have walk in closets or separate sitting areas off to the side, making your morning and evening rituals much faster and more convenient. Imagine getting out of the shower and being able to go directly to your closet and get the clothing you need. This can be a great way to give your bathroom more, and make it easier on you as well.

A great bathroom remodeling idea is to change the flooring and wall coverings, even if nothing else is done. A new coat of paint or a fresh new wallpaper covering can make an amazing difference in the way your bathroom looks, at a very low cost to complete. The flooring in your bathroom can also make a big difference in the look and feel of your bathroom. Take up the old linoleum or tile, and choose a colorful tile to put down as a replacement. This step is also a low cost option that can have big benefits when it comes to the way your bathroom looks.

Don't forget windows and other accents when remodeling your bathroom. Windows let in light and allow damp air to escape, and there should be at least one or two in your bathroom. A bright bathroom with plenty of natural light will look fabulous, and much better than a dark bathroom with little natural light. Plants can add a big splash of color and nature, and the steam in the bathroom makes a perfect environment for many plants. Add a couple of plants on the window sills, or put a planter stand by a window to ensure adequate light.

Bathroom remodeling is about more than just the sink, tub, shower, and toilet. When designing the remodeling plan for the project, think carefully about what you want and need, and where the fixtures should be situated for the most efficient use, as well as your convenience. Think about your bathroom rituals. If you get up, shower, and then apply your makeup in the bathroom each morning, having a place for all your beauty supplies right where you use them is important. Try to situate and create a place for everything that is located where you need or will use it. This will make it much easier and more convenient for you while you are using the bathroom each day.

Storage is an important aspect of bathroom remodeling ideas. There are many things that people store in their bathrooms, like towels and other linens, extra essentials like shampoo, conditioner, soap, toilet paper, and other supplies, medications, and many other things. Consider whether you have enough storage in your existing bathroom, and determine how much more storage space you should have. Storage space can be accomplished by adding closets, cabinets, shelves, and other storage options. Storage and organization are two key components to a great bathroom, so make sure that your bathroom remodeling plans consider these two aspects. Your bathroom does not have to be boring or drab, and can be turned into one of the most popular and beautiful rooms in your home with a little effort and some efficient planning.
