PROFESSIONAL BLACK MOLD TEST KIT

The PROFESSIONAL BLACK MOLD TEST KIT IS MADE FOR ALL TYPES OF MOLDS and offers three (3) air sampling methods to indicate the presence or absence of mold within 48 hours. If mold growth is present in the air sample taken, an Optional Lab Analysis ($65 ea.) is available which will identify the exact type and quantity of mold present. If no mold growth is present after the recommended incubation period, analysis will not be necessary. Note: If you currently have visual mold growth present in your home or office, you will also be able to take a visual mold sample and send it in to our laboratory for a complete analysis ($65 ea.) in order to determine the type of mold present. Two mold test kits are needed for an accurate picture of each indoor area (average sized room air sampling method only) of concern.  All lab fees include a phone consultation with Certified Environmental Inspector and CEO Dennis Kanakis explaining what the results mean, once available.

Note: As with all laboratories, all sampling methodologies are subject to the possible occurrence of false negative and false positive results.

PETRI DISH SETUP DIRECTIONS

Remove petri dish from the plastic bag and place it on a level surface. DO NOT HANDLE the interior side of the petri dish or expose it to the outside environment until you are ready to conduct a test.

Remove the cover from the petri dish and fill the mold medium into the perti dish bottom. Replace the cover and gently swirl the dish until the bottom is completely covered. Allow adequate time to harden, approximately one hour, and keep it on a level surface.

Bring the dish to the location you wish to test. Determine what sampling method you will use for the particular sample and skip to the instructions listed below which pertain to the method you intend to use.

Note: You may use only one testing method per petri dish and the procedure above needs to be repeated for each sample that will be taken.

METHOD 1: VISUAL SAMPLING; ONE SAMPLE WILL BE NEEDED FOR EACH TEST LOCATION Once you have completed the petri dish set up process, locate the visual mold growth that you intend to test. Take the enclosed sterile Q-tip style swab and wipe the tip across the actual mold growth. (Mold must attach to the tip of the swab.) Remove the cover on the petri dish. Transfer the mold from the visual growth location (wall or other surface) to the petri dish. Very carefully wipe the mold sample from the tip of the swab across and over the top surface of the hardened medium in the petri dish, allowing the mold to adhere and ready itself for incubation. Once the sampling process is complete, replace the cover onto the dish and proceed to the lab results directions at the bottom of this page. IN ORDER TO PROVIDE THE RESULTS OF THE VISUAL SAMPLE YOU WILL HAVE TO SEND IN BOTH THE SWAB AND PETRI DISH FOR LABORATORY ANALYSIS.  EACH TEST ORDERED COMES IN AN AIR TIGHT BAG...AND EACH TEST SENT BACK IN TO US FOR ANALYSIS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY THE SWAB USED, IN THE SAME SUPPLIED PLASTIC BAG AS THE CORRESPONDING DISH USED FOR EACH SAMPLE.

METHOD 2: HVAC AIR SAMPLING (DUCT TAPE IS REQUIRED); ONE SAMPLE REQUIRED FOR EACH SEPARATE HVAC SYSTEM
After you have completed the setup of the petri dish, locate the systems vent which is the furthest away from the main system location. Remove the cover of the petri dish and secure the open dish against the open air vent with duct tape. Make sure to close all of the other air vents that are on the system. Turn the HVAC system fan on the high setting for ten (10) minutes, allowing the forced air to hit the interior side, hardened surface of the petri dish. Once the ten (10) minutes has passed, remove the dish from the air vent, replace the cover and allow it to incubate for 48 hours. Re-check the dish at around 72 hours and once again at around 96 hours in order to be sure that no slower growing molds were overlooked. If mold grows and is present after the recommended  incubation period, proceed to the directions for obtaining the laboratory analysis. If no mold growth is evidenced after the recommended incubation period, analysis will not be necessary.

METHOD 3: SETTLING PLATE METHOD (ALTERNATIVE AIR SAMPLING); TWO SAMPLES REQUIRED 8'-12' APART IN EVERY AVERAGE SIZED ROOM
After you have completed the petri dish setup, take the petri dish to the test location where you intend to test and find a steady surface. ( Such as a table, 3' - 4 1/2' tall ) Remove the lid from the petri dish and leave it open and exposed to the environment for one hour. Once the one (1) hour period is complete, replace the lid and allow to incubate for 48 hours (KEEP COVERED IN A DARK OR LOW LIGHT LOCATION). Re-check the dish at 72 hours and once again at 96 hours to be sure that no slower growing molds were overlooked. If mold growth is visible after the recommended incubation periods, skip to the lab results directions below. If no mold growth is evidenced after the incubation period, analysis will not be necessary.

LAB RESULTS DIRECTIONS
Please Note: To insure that your sample stays in-tact during shipping, please use tape (preferably electrical tape) around the edges of the petri dish and place the dish back in the original zip-lock bag that it was shipped to you in.

Each Professional Mold Test Kit requires a $65 lab fee, and includes a phone consultation with Certified Environmental Inspector and CEO Dennis Kanakis explaining what the results mean...once available.  Place the petri dish in a padded envelope with the information form it came with, and a check or money order for the total payment due, made payable to Olympian; Mail immediately...and preferably by overnight mail to:

Olympian 9728 3rd Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11209-7742. Within 5 business days after Olympian has received your sample, we will send an easy to read evaluation by email, fax or first class mail (your choice), indicating the exact type and count of mold present.  Once you have received your results, you can call our office to schedule a time to go over the results with Inspector; Dennis Kanakis 866-476-2056.
